![]() The Heart Group’s goal was to create a comfortable, classic waiting room which would last for years. St. Thomas Hospital’s goal was to unify The Heart Group’s interiors with the public spaces of The Heart Institute. The design challenge was to assimilate the diverse styles of these organizations into one design package. To accomplish this, IDR brought elements from The Heart Institute’s public areas into the design for The Heart Group lobby. A bold center isle of Italian fiendre tile — which repeats colors used in the Institute’s elevator lobby floor — was installed in the waiting room. This provides a beautiful yet durable path for the thousands of patients that visit the cardiology group. ![]() Comfortable seating was a primary objective. IDR negotiated leather costs to upholster the majority of the chairs. Warmth was brought to the exam room corridor with brushed stainless light fixtures and touches of black in an environment of subtly grayed sage green. Medium cherry doors add rich color throughout the third and fourth floors, without seeming ostentatious. Both The Heart Group and St. Thomas Hospital felt their goals were met. The Heart Group’s CEO, Travis Wood, said, “I wouldn’t change a thing,” while Ken Green, Vice President of Facilities and Support Services said, “It sets the standards for tenant spaces at St. Thomas — and it was all done below budget.” Interior Design.
